Defending champions fall to Chapungu, Z$16 billion for Black Rhinos

Defending champions fall to Chapungu
HARARE - Champions Caps United were punished 4-2 for poor defending by Chapungu, who now sit on second position in the log, thanks to an inspirational performance by Maxwell Dube in Gweru at the weekend. But Highlanders powered their way to

a 2-0 win over visiting Masvingo United at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday.
Highlanders – coached by Methembe Ndlovu – have played five and won all this season.
Dynamos finally found their feet again as they chalked up their second victory of the season after beating Motor Action 1-0 in Harare. Once again it was Evans Gwekwerere to the rescue for Dynamos with the winner.
Buymore finally got their campaign underway, and managed to beat struggling Zimbabwe Saints 2-0 at Gwanzura. Moses Chunga was not so lucky in his second game in charge of Shooting Stars, losing 2-1 against Mwana Africa at Trojan Mine in Bindura.
It was the first match for Mwana Africa at their new home after they received a green light to use their stadium from the Premier Soccer League.
But the big match was at Barbourfields. Rising star Obadiah Tarumbwa and defender Gilbert Banda silenced Masvingo, who have dominated Bosso for the past two seasons. It was sweet revenge for Ndlovu who had watched his side succumb to a 1-0
defeat in the Independence Trophy semi-final at the same venue last week.
Meanwhile Northern Region Division One side, Harare United, extended their lead at the top with a convincing 4-2 win of Felfar Stars at the University of Zimbabwe grounds on Sunday.
They top the log with 21 points from their seven games while second placed Gunners have managed 14 from the same number of matches.
But Gunners were the biggest winners of the weekend after they dismissed former Premiership side Eiffel Flats 5-0.
Ambitious side Lengthens suffered a setback after losing 1-3 to Karoi United at Tsungubvi Stadium while another Premiership contender Black Mambas fell 0-3 to Golden Kopje. – Sports correspondent

Z$16 billion for Black Rhinos
HARARE – The Zimbabwe National Army side Black Rhinos has been given
Z$16 billion by Doves Holdings for 2006.
The company’s chief executive officer Emmanuel Chigu said the team’s professionalism had been the key to the sponsorship.
“Black Rhinos is a club run on professional lines. I have never read in the papers of any squabbles at Rhinos and this is what has lured us to the team. It is our responsibility to give back to the community and this is why we have decided to align ourselves with Rhinos. Moreover, they, like us, have a responsibility to the community as they protect us,” he said.” Sports correspondent
