Econet changeover set for Feb 26

HARARE - Zimbabwe's leading mobile phone services provider Econet Wireless has set midnight on February 26 as the changeover for its numbering plan from nine to 10 digits.   Marketing manager Isaiah Nyangari said new system would allow for a client base of 10 million subscribers, as oppose

d to one million allowed by the current system.
“If your number is 091 222 111, it will become 091(2) 222 111,” Nyangari said.
There will be a two-week transition period after the deadline, where subscribers can alternate between either the old or new numbering system.
The new system is anticipated to ensure that Econet has the widest coverage following its expansion programme and to afford its subscribers the chance to have access to innovative products and services such as GPRS and 3G.
