This week we hang out at two kicking places in Harare

Sports Diner and Chez Ntemba.
On a cold winter's night, Sports Diner is a pretty good place for a drink and a dance. On a hot summer's evening, though, it is simply the best night out in Harare.

Sports Diner sits right across the road from the Holiday Inn, next to the Innscor Food Court, and offers stunning entertainment, Sunday to Sunday. This supreme location attracts a lively, cash-rich crowd, although Harare’s fun-loving set also view this as good club for partying the night away.

The music is hardly cutting edge, more party music, but there, Sports Diner covers everything from th 60s to today’s best dance tunes. And it also boasts the best repertoire of performances in town, from top performers such as sungura maestro Alick Macheso to Mambokadzi.

A popular feature of the club is the dancing girls night. As each girl takes their turn on the podium, the crowd of admirers just grows and grows. This part is popular with Harare stag parties too.

At the height of winter like this, Sports Diner boasts a superb hot meal served with ice cold drinks. Almost every day it is packed with revelers, enjoying the music, the cool draught or bottled beer, and has dozens swaying to the music.

Exclusive rhumba joint Chez Ntemba boasts a terrific position on the first of the large NetOne Building, right on the outskirts of the city centre.

By day, Chez Ntemba is a great place to grab a snack and enjoy the views over the whole square. At night, it transforms into one of Harare’s most exclusive nightclubs, with cool lighting and some of Harare’s best rhumba DJs.

This is no cheap joint and attracts foreign visitors with US dollar bills to spend.

Look up from Chez Ntemba’s dance section and you’ll see the glass cube of the upper deck, where purple lights illuminate dancers.

As well as two bars and two chill-out areas, Chez Ntemba has a roof terrace offering superb views over the dancefloor. The interior is very stylish, with white tablecloths and comfy sofas from which to watch the dancers, or to recline in after joining them for a spell.

There is a good mix of nationalities and bar prices are reasonable for a club. With its late closing time, Chez Ntemba is a great place to top off your night and to start the next morning.
