Illegal settlers given land

land_open.jpegHARARE More than 100 illegal settlers were recently allocated land by the government in Dinfield in Vungu Rural District.

The 100 are part of several illegal settlements in the province that have caused a lot of land wrangles.

Vungu Rural District Council Chairman, Selton Charamba, said the beneficiaries illegally settled on an open strip of land without proper allocation by the government a few years ago and were never vacated.

He said when the Governor was given a report early this year that he allowed the villagers to stay while space was being created.

“We have now allocated them land legally and they can build permanent structures. Each of these has been allocated a minimum of four hectares,” said Charamba.

The villagers were expected to have moved to their newly pegged pieces of land by the end of December this year.
