Theatre director gets boost

HARARE - NAMA-winning actress-turned-director Eunice Tava has received a welcome boost to her career after the producers of her much-acclaimed 'Election Day' agreed to sponsor a sequel.

Tava found fame as a director during HIFA 2010 when she directed the hilarious, if not tragic Election Day, penned by the prolific, Canada-based playwright Stanley Makuwe. So successful was the production, featuring the election rigging antics of a well-known Zimbabwean politician, that Rooftop eventually made it their Christmas Play for 2010.

Tava told The Zimbabwean she was highly honoured to have been afforded space to showcase her talent during the highly prestigious slot at Theatre In The Park. At this time Zimbabweans enjoy taking visiting friends and family to the theatre, one of the last safe places of entertainment since the meltdown.

Tava said her confidence had been boosted by the positive comments she received from the audience, and particularly her long-time producer Daves Guzha, who announced at the end of the production that Rooftop had decided that based on the play’s successful run a sequel would be staged.

The much anticipated sequel, so close to national elections will definitely get tongues wagging and further reinforce Tava’s position as a director of note, alongside the likes of Susan Hains, Dawn Parkinson and Niekki Ziehl.
