Buildings: how important are they to god?

The apostle Paul stated “The God who produced and formed the world and all things in it being Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in handmade shrines.” (Acts 17:24)

With all the fighting and boasting over buildings we are engaging in, surely brethren this word speaks to us as much as it did to them.

If our pursuit is selfish and worldly matters are our primary concern then our church buildings will matter to us. However, if our pursuit is Him, then loosing or keeping the building does not matter. Surely the God who made the world and all that is within it could never be impressed by a structure of His creation.

Losing or keeping a building does not in any way speak of keeping or losing the place of Gods abode.

In the following verse 25, Paul also points out that God is not “served by human hands as though he lacked anything for it is He Himself who gives life and breath and all things to all.”

The best gift we could ever offer God is ourselves, as living sacrifices, channels for the Holy Spirit to work through, to establish the fullness of Christ in each disciple. When God looks down on earth He is only impressed by His Son.

When God looks at us the only thing that would fascinate Him is His Son. God's pleasure is not necessarily creation, but rather creation yielding to the fullness of Christ Who is the express image of Himself.

God does not dwell in buildings but in the lives of His followers.
