The best athletes

National Athletic Association of Zimbabwe president, Joseph Mungwari, believes they have selected the best team of athletes to win medals at the All-Africa Games in Maputo, Mozambique in September.

The veteran administrator said they were aiming to bring with at least three medals home from the Pan African Games. A provisional team of 20 athletes has been submitted for consideration

for the Pan African Games. The association used the Inter-Provincial Track and Field Championships at the University of Zimbabwe to select the athletes.

"I think we selected the best athletes for the games. We are confident they will fly the country's flag high and bring home some medals.”

United States-based long jumper and sprinter Ngonidzashe Makusha will lead the team to the Maputo Games. Other seasoned campaigners Nelton Ndebele, Kelvin Pangiso and sprinter Brian Dzingai were also selected and will make the trip to Maputo.

United States-based athletes Gabriel Mvumvure and David Tinago are also part of the team.

African Youth Champion in 100m and 200m, Tinashe Mutanga, Zuva Bvekerwa, Abdul Simbili, Francis Zimwara, Cornelious Mudzingwa and Dennis Bvekerwa have also been included.

In the female category United States-based female triple jumper, Namatirai Maugara, will lead the team that also includes Letwine Mharakurwa, Grace Jumo, Sharon Taengwa, Faithful Goremusandu, Thandiwe Nyathi, Irene Ndoreka and Rutendo Nyahora.
