CBZ topped the list in the latest ranking by the Harare-headquartered investment house. CBZ had the largest absolute profits of US$20.95 million, continuing its dominance from 2009 when it netted US$7.9 million.
ABC, whose flagship operation Banc ABC launched a number of retail units in 2010, ranks second.
"CBZ remained the most dominant bank in terms of both deposit and lending market share but is losing ground to ABC and Interfin," said the latest MMC Capital report which projects banking sector trends until 2013.
CBZ scored well on smart banking practices. These include, among others, Tier 1 capital compared with risk-weighted assets and nonperforming assets compared with total assets.
Analysts said the renewed strict supervision from the Reserve Bank has also played a role.
