Tim was born in Westminster on 12 March, 1952.
He attended Highgate School in London and studied politics at the University of Rhodesia before taking up journalism.
After Zimbabwe’s Independence, Tim became a well-known figure on the journalistic circuit, representing ITN and the BBC and a number of other respected news outlets.
In the mid-1980s he formed the Foreign Correspondents’ Association which helped improve relations between the Press and Government.
Tim was a massively talented musician and songwriter and leaves behind him dozens of friends …even fans.
“He was a wonderful man, a vastly talented musician and journalist who shed so much sunshine on other people’s lives, while battling some pretty dark problems of his own,” said one friend who knew Tim during his most productive years in the 1980s and 1990s.
Details about his funeral will be circulated to his many friends in Britain, South Africa and Zimbabwe over the next few days.
