Urban-rural ICT gap widens

Youths here have urged the government to provide them with access to information and communication. At an ICT Symposium held at Matondo business centre in Mutare South district recently Peter Machowa of the Rural District Development Association said the rural-urban ICT gap had widened and affected national development.

“Lack of resources such as equipment and funding has hampered our efforts to be associated with ICT,” said Leonard Zvarare, a youth from Chigodora. “Most schools, especially in rural areas, do not have computers. This is worrying and should be addressed,” he said.

The government, he said, should work on ensuring that every child had access to ICT by equipping schools with computers. He said there should be websites for rural districts so that youths could interact with the government and other stakeholders.
