Tribalism worse than Racism

EDITOR - This is my dedication to the Unity Accord of 1987 which gave rise to Unity Day on 22 December every year. It’s not unity among political parties but among tribes.

Tribalism is one social mishap that rendered the world hopeless and gave rise to racism, because since people are not united within their own community, nations and families, we cannot be united racially.

What will it profit a man to lift his machete against a fellow man from the same land and kill him, then rape his wife and daughter, set his son a blaze and plug the eyes of his next door neighbour?

The fact that we do not belong to the same religion yet seek the face of one good God be him known as Mwari, Alah, Jah, Chikene, Obasi, Oluwa, Yaweh is supposed to be a joyful thing and not an excuse to hang a fellow man, set the church or mosque on fire.

What has the world become that mankind can no longer dwell in peace? What is the difference between a Zimbabwean man from Matabeleland North or South and one like me from Zaka district Masvingo Province?

Haile Selassie once said, “Until the philosophy which holds one race superior and another inferior is finally and permanently discredited and abandoned, everywhere is war and until there are no longer first-class and second-class citizens of any nation, until the colour of a man’s skin is of no more significance than the colour of his eyes. And until the basic human rights are equally guaranteed to all without regard to race, there is war.” And it’s very true.

It is time, so let us be friends and love each other because we don’t have to fight to show our strength, the beauty in you is the strength in me and the joy in you is my reason to smile, giving me your humble and friendly hand means a lot to my loved ones because the true essence of you and me as God intended lies on your understanding of who i am because i know that you are an instrument of peace, love and respect. Your genuine sincerity has opened my heart so i will never manipulate to close yours.”

We can do it if we really want to.- Kufakunesu Mawira, Hwange
