Bhunu disappointed

Rising tennis sensation, Valeria Bhunu (17), recently expressed disappointment at being suspended from the International Tennis Federation’s African Junior Championships.

The teenager missed out, after her failure to fulfil some previous tournaments she had earlier confirmed participating in. “I am suspended because of two recent tournaments the authorities said I did not withdraw from, yet I did that online but the withdrawal was not processed,” she said.

“By the time I saw this, the tournaments had already started. For each tournament a player misses the withdrawal, it counts as six suspension points and every 10 points mean a month’s suspension. We tried to explain what happened, but the ITF Head Office could not lift an already processed suspension. It was quite unfortunate as I was really looking forward to play for my country once again.”
