ZC TAPP application finalised

Zimbabwe is among three countries set to benefit from an International Cricket Council initiative aimed at enabling member associations to develop more competitive teams at the higher levels of international cricket. Earlier this week, Cricket Scotland and the Koninklijke Nederlandse (Netherlands) Cricket Board became the second and third memberst o finalise a Targeted Assistance and Performance Programme (TAPP) agreement.

Colin Gibson, ICC Head of Media and Communications, said his organisation was close to securing $1, 5 million for Zimbabwe Cricket

“Further TAPP awards have been provided to the cricket boards of New Zealand, West Indies and Zimbabwe, and details of these programmes are currently being finalised,” Gibson said from Dubai this week.

TAPP, which the ICC introduced following its annual meeting in January last year, targets lower-ranked Full Members and higher-ranked Associate/Affiliate Members for assistance. ZC is one of six such that applied for funding.

Loss of form following the mass resignation of senior players had negatively impacted on the team’s performance. The country is ranked a lowly ninth in the Reliance ICC One Day International Rankings, dashing its hopes of participating in the Champions Trophy later this year.

It also ranks last in the T20 table and is currently unranked in the Tests, having played insufficient matches.
