Amailnda, which has interests in various tourism ventures in Matabeleland, is reported to have run Bulawayo Club professionally and efficiently over the past years.
“It’s true that we have been given notice to vacate the premises with all our assets with effect from the end of this month,” said a spokesperson for the company. “The future of the club will be decided by the club members who are the owners of the property.”
There are rumours that Zanu (PF) leaders are targeting the club under the party‘s controversial indigenisation drive.
Built and maintained in the tradition of the gentlemen’s clubs that flourished in the days of the British empire, members says the club combines the elegance of the past with the best of the present.
While the club has been lovingly renovated, much of the original furniture, fittings and early artwork remain.
