Courtney Lock in Morocco

Junior tennis star, Courtney Lock, is acclimatizing in Morocco ahead of next month’s Confederation of African Tennis Junior Championships, scheduled for the North African country on February 17-22.

Lock left South Africa last weekend to prepare for the annual prime junior tennis event in the continent.

“I will be training in Morocco for a few weeks,” the17-year-old double-handed backhand specialist told The Zimbabwean.

“I am feeling good. This is going to be my last year playing in the Under-18 category and I have to get some good results and fly the flag high.” The continental junior championships come after an imperious run of form for Zimbabwe’s highest ranked junior player last year.

He was particularly successful in the doubles version of the game, where with South African partner, Lloyd Harris, he won the Southern/ Central African Junior Circuit Doubles in Harare. He partnered with another South African, Bjorn Scheepbouwer, to win the South African leg of the International Tennis Federation Grade Four, just a few months after he had partnered Kenya’s Ismael Changawa to gold at the ITF East African Circuit Two tournament in Kenya.

These and other performances have reportedly caught the eye of Florida State University, where his elder brother, Benjamin, is based.
