Young tennis champs head for AJC

The Zimbabwe Under-18 team will compete against fellow African countries when the Africa Junior Championship (AJC) U-18 tournament gets underway on February 17 to 22 in Casablanca, Morocco.

Tennis players from Mutare continue with their dominance after four of them found their way into the Zimbabwe team. Alwin Mushonga and Ngoni Makambwa, both from Mutare’s Mantas Academy, will be part of the boys’ team, while other Mantas products, Kerren Muswere and Latifah Yasin, will be in the girls’ team.

In the U-18 boys’ team, the Mutare duo will join Courtney Lock, Luca Picci and Tadiwa Chinamo to make up the five country’s representatives in that age group. Muswere and Yasin will also join compatriots Nicole Dzenga, Rufaro Chirewa and Zarah Finnigan in the girls’ team.

Mantas Tennis Academy director of coaching Freeman Nyamunokora commended the players for their hard work. “We are happy that our players continue to put maximum effort on the court and that has earned them respect. It is unfortunate that there is not much in terms of sponsorship, but the players have been resilient in showcasing their talent. We hope and pray that a day will come when the corporate world will see value in partnering the game of tennis,” he said.
