Following his show at the US Open where he finished joint 28th he has moved from 80 to 78 in the world rankings. So far this season, De Jonge has accumulated a total score of 91.89 points in 52 events. The next highest placed Zimbabwean is Ryan Cairns who is placed at 767 followed by Mark Williams who is pegged at 804.

But de Jonge was a number 70 in March. Five South Africans – Charl Schwartzel 24th, Louis Oosthuizen 43, Ernie Else 54, Richard Sterne 59 and George Coetzee 64 – are the only African golfers above de Jonge in the latest rankings.

Darren Fichardt of South Africa who won the 2013 Zimbabwe Open golf tournament is placed at 109.

The Official World Golf Rankings, which is endorsed by the four major championships and the five professional tours which make up the International Federation of PGA Tours, are issued every Monday, following completion of the previous week's tournaments from around the world.

This statistic is the average number of points earned per event in the last 104 weeks. These points are awarded based upon finish position as well as the strength of the field.

Still top of the rankings is Adam Scott of Australia with 388.22 points from 42 events and leads Henrik Stenson of Sweden and Bubba Watson of the USA. Former world number one Tiger Woods who missed the US Open through injury is way back in fourth place.

In 2008, de Jonge finished at 212. He improved this to 104 in 2010, fell back to 143 in 2011 and made great strides in 2012 when he finished the season as the globe’s 83rd top player.

He has made no secret or his aim to finish in the top 50 this season.
