Billiat could be out for weeks

Nippy Zimbabwe Warriors winger Khama Billiat could face a few weeks on the sidelines, following an injury he sustained in the Absa Premiership recently.

The Mamelodi Sundowns star was one of those listed as likely to miss their side’s midweek league game against newly-crowned MTN8 champions, Ajax Cape Town, at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.
The others were Liberian forward, Anthony Laffor and defender Thabo Nthethe. Billiat is nursing an ankle injury sustained in his team’s 1-0 loss to Golden Arrows in their last league game.

Sundowns had revealed soon after that game that they would wait on a scan to reveal the full extent of the former Caps United man’s injury, after the tear-away starlet was taken off on a stretcher in the last minutes of added time in their defeat away to Arrows two weekends ago.

“We think he will be out for some time, but I cannot say how long because the injury is not as bad as it looked before, yet he might still need to take a rest,” said club spokesman, Thulani Thuswa recently.
Billiat, who ironically joined Sundowns from Ajax, is one of the key players as Sundowns resume their quest to snatch back the league crown from Kaizer Chiefs, who have done well so far. His injury has admittedly been a blow to coach Pitso Mosimane, who voiced his displeasure with the latest turn of events, as his side lost their second match in a row.

“It is really bad for us that we lose one of our key players at this crucial stage, when we are looking at beginning the league fight. We don’t know for how long Khama will be out, but it is really bad,” said Mosimane.
