Bronkhorst’s lawyers have requested that his indictment be quashed.

He is being accused of failing to stop American dentist, Walter Palmer, from killing Cecil near the Hwange National Park.

The accused man will be back in court on October 15.

Defence lawyer, Perpetua Dube, said she had requested for the matter to be quashed because the state had failed to present facts showing a crime against Bronkhorst.

She also intends to approach the Constitutional Court to rule if or not her client’s constitutional rights had been breached.

Bronkhorst is denying the charge laid against but faces a $20,000 fine and up to 10 years in jail if convicted.

He is out on bail.

Prosecutors will call five witnesses, including the owner of the game park where Cecil was killed.

There was a worldwide outcry when Palmer, a dentist killed Cecil during a trophy excursion.

He has insisted that he did not know that Cecil was a collared lion and remains in his home country where he fled after the killing.

The Zimbabwean government initially indicated that it wanted him extradited but nothing has materialised.
