Chinamasa sets 2016 budget at $4 billion

FINANCE minister Patrick Chinamasa has unveiled the $4 billion 2016 budget, his third since he became the treasury chief.

The announcement made in Parliament Thursday in President Mugabe’s presence, comes after experts and observers said they did not expect any miracles from Chinamasa.

But Chinamasa said he expects the economy to grow by 2.7 percent in 2016, compared with a projected 1.5 percent increase this year.

Government expects to clear $1.8 billion in arrears to international financial institutions in the first half of 2016, the treasury chief said in Parliament.
