The President was addressing the opening session of the OMM Congress, which is taking place in the southern city of Matola. The OMM is affiliated to the ruling Frelimo Party.

He stressed that “we want this Congress to leave with a leadership that is more open, communicative, and able to unite and lead the destiny of women”.

He added that Frelimo wants an OMM that is more cohesive and interwoven between generations, where the fighter transfers her experience to the next generation, where the farm worker and the labourer can fully participate without fear or reservation.

The Congress will analyse the report of the National Council, consider revisions to its statutes, and hold elections for new members for its National Council and Secretariat.

There are 788 delegates taking part in the Congress, along with guests from South Africa, Cuba, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Tanzania and Angola. The meeting is scheduled to last until Friday.
