This comes after police, on Monday, dispersed the Africa Unity Square protesters who had regrouped and resumed their demonstration.

The activists claimed that police officers beat them up during the raid leaving many of their number with minor injuries.

Linda Masarira, the spokesperson for the group, told NewZimbabwe.com that they had approached the High Court seeking for an order to stop the police from interfering with their activities.

“We are delighted to inform you that an urgent chamber application for an interdict seeking to bar the police from interfering with the Occupy Movement of Zimbabwe has been made at the High Court.

“We will be giving you more details of the application and the response,” she said.

The group’s lawyer, Obey Shava, could not be reached for comment.

The protestors are currently on bail after they were arrested for allegedly robbing two women during their aborted 16-day protest at the Harare park.

They were also charged with resisting arrest and obstructing the course of justice.

The activists have since vowed to continue with the demonstrations “until President Mugabe steps down”.
