MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai
ZDI Director Pedzisayi Ruhanya commended MDC-T leader for opening up about his health status a move which Ruhanya said was an indicator of accountability in leadership.
“This shows that he (Tsvangirai) belongs to group of modern politicians who appreciate openness, transparency and accountability contrary to President Robert Mugabe who behaves like a stone age traditional Chief,†said Ruhanya.
“Tsvangirai’s gesture will help de-stigmatise cancer and stabilize his political party proving that people can fight and struggle against cancer and still achieve their goals in life. Having cancer does not mean the end of life as one can overcome it.
“What Tsvangirai did will help stabilize his party and make sure that there is no rumour mongering around his supporters and the people at large.
“This is not new to us from MDC-T leadership; we have seen it from his deputy Thokozani Khupe who did the same when she was diagnosed with cancer some few years back.  It was a public issue and she went through it and got all the treatment until she recovered and, now we see her delivering well in her duties.â€
Analysts say Tsvangirai’s move should also boost government efforts to tackle the scourge that is affecting many people with no affordable medication and equipment for the affected.
