Grace wanted to be president

THE Zanu PF women's league has claimed that former First Lady Grace Mugabe used the interface rallies to position herself to succeed aging former president Robert Mugabe.

Addressing party women at the meet the Zanu PF Women’s League  Meet the Women tour in Mutare recently, Zanu PF secretary for women’s affairs Mabel Chinomona said the Zanu PF party was distorted during the period of interface rallies.”The interface rallies had lost their significance. It was now used as a platform to insult others and at the same time she (Grace) was now furthering her aspirations to become the President,” said Chinomona.  “Some of us were thrown out. The women’s league was abused and some people failed to reach the highest offices because they were blocked by Grace Mugabe. We were given sidekicks and were elbowed out. She had no respect for other women and she did not listen to others. She handpicked people to positions in the women’s league all because she wanted to be the President,” added the women’s league  boss. “But there is time for everything. We all know the events that followed and now we have a new leader who is Cde Emerson Mnangagwa. We know that there were others who were already positioning themselves for the Presidency,” Chinomona said.

The secretary for administration in the Zanu PF party Monica Mutsvangwa though there has been a new leadership in the country some women are still in fear of Grace. “I can see that in some areas there are still some women who are in fear of Grace but that is past now. Let’s not be divided as before but let’s now move forward together and rally behind our President,” she said.

“Some women were now afraid of coming to meetings of the party because of Grace Mugabe. Now l want to urge you to come to all the party meetings because the women’s league now has a new leader (Chinomona) she all went through some difficulties through the days of Grace. But, you will see some great change in the women’s league,” said Mutsvangwa.

She added that the former First Lady took advantage of aging Mugabe to run the women’s league on her own.
