Mugeyi confident of his team

LEGENDARY former Zimbabwe Warriors' striker, Wilfred Mugeyi, is confident of winning his first league medal as a coach saying his Ajax Cape Town team stood a good chance of winning the South African Premiership.

The Urban Warriors assistant coach, a regular figure in the Zimbabwe national team in his heyday, said the young team was showing tremendous consistency, worthy of championship contenders.

The Cape Town club top the ABSA Premiership standings having defied critics who had written them off after they lost the services of cup-winning coaches Muhsin Etugral to Kaizer Chiefs and Mugeyi’s countryman Ian Gorowa to neighbours Moroka Swallows in the pre 2007/08 season.

“Ajax can go all the way and win the league. The spirit in our camp looks fantastic and we are raring to go,” the former Zimbabwe Soccer Star of the Year said.

Mugeyi, assistant to Craig Rosslee, has the inspiring of form of gritty Cameroonian youngster Eyong Enoh and Israel-bound striker Terror Fanteni to thank for the team’s form although he insists that the nine-year old club is not a two-man team.

Prior to coaching, the former league winner was an award winning and topscoring striker with Bush Bucks, Free State Stars and Ajax in the South African Premiership as well as Maccabi Haifa in Israel. – CAJ News
