ACDP DECRIES ARREST OF TSVAGIRAI AND SAYS IT MAKES A MOCKERY OUT OF THE
MBEKI MEDIATION: SHOWS MUGABE HAS NO DESIRE TO SEE HIS COUNTRY HAVE FREE AND
FAIR ELECTIONS.

ACDP MP & Whip, Cheryllyn Dudley today called the night arrest of Morgan
Tsvangirai on the eve of the Freedom March, a shameful event and one that
belies President Mugabe’s utterances about holding free and fair elections. The midnight arrest of the Opposition leader in Zimbabwe, Morgan
Tsvangirai, is shameful. This intimidation taking place when our own
President is mediating talks, makes a mockery of them and shows ill-intent
by Robert Mugabe. The ACDP supports democratic government and believes the people of Zimbabwe
should have the freedom to hear all candidates and choose whomever they want
to govern them without fear of reprisal, in accordance with the SADC
protocols to which Mugabe is a signatory. In preparation for the peaceful Freedom March due to be held today, the MDC
leader said no to violence and looting of property and re-iterated the
desire for democratic change. He said recently The only stone Zimbabweans
can throw is their vote”. Surely, the least South Africans can do is stand
alongside our neighbours in their honourable desire for peaceful change.Cheryllyn Dudley, MP and Whip
