Chimunthu elected Speaker of Malawi Parliament

The Speaker whose political lifestyle has been a model to many as he is above petty political fights took the chair and thanked members of parliament for the confidence they had placed in him and the great responsibility entrusted to him.

He vowed to carry out his duties to the best of his abilities.

Malawians are hoping that the new Speaker will unite the country by not leaning on one side in the house on issues that is of good governance.

The Speaker then presided over the elections of his two deputies

The DPP dominated House elected former second deputy speaker Johns Chingola to the position of first deputy speaker.

Female parliamentarian of DPP, Juliana Nanyoni Mphande was elected second deputy speaker.

The new Parliament elected on May 19 is scheduled to start budget session on Tuesday to be opened by President Bingu wa Mutharika.
