I attacked Zhuwawo in self-defence – Danga

HARARE A member of Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU) arrested for assaulting a Zanu (PF) heavyweight said he did it in self-defence. Patrick Danga was arrested last week at the all stakeholders constitutional conference at HICC for assaulting Zanu (PF) legislator, Patrick Zhuwawo.

Danga was arrested after the disruption of the constitutional conference by Zanu (PF) thugs led by Zhuwawo , Joseph Chinotimba and Patrick Chinamasa. He was detained for five days at Harare Central Police Station and released after paying US$20 fine for assault charges on Friday.
In an exclusive interview with The Zimbabwean after his release, Danga said Zhuwawo attacked him first.
I was standing with inside the HICC talking about what had caused the disruption of the constitutional conference. Suddenly Zhuwawo, with the help of some war veterans, started throwing water bottles at us, said Danga.
The ZINASU member said he wasnt expecting such behaviour from a legislator.
When I asked him why he was doing it, Zhuwawo said he was defending his country from the British and he told us to go back to Britain.
As Zhuwawo continued to bombard him with bottles, Danga punched him.
He said although police did not harass him during his detention he was detained in filthy cells for five days without being taken to court only to be released after paying a fine.
