The cricket controlling body announced that Propser Utseya will lead the side which will be hoping to cause more surprises at the tournament, following its famous win over Australia at the inaugural ICC World Twenty20 2007. Tendai Chatara is the 16th man in the squad and will be playing the four day match in the West Indies. Zimbabwe, who will be based in Guyana, will open their campaign in three-team Group B against Sri Lanka on May 3 before a date with New Zealand a day later. Each group will be played on a round-robin basis with the top two sides progressing to the Super Eight stages.

Zimbabwe will be marking a return to Test cricket after three years in the sidelines. The team lost that status following a drop in cricket standards after differences between senior players and management over various issues. The teams fortunes have improved recently and although they lost earlier this month against West Indies, they did so with grace.

The squad:

Prosper Utseya (Captain), Brendan Taylor, Hamilton Masakadza, Tatenda Taibu, Charles Coventry, Vusimuzi Sibanda, Gregory Lamb, Elton Chigumura, Greame Cremer, Raymond Price, Christopher Mpofu, Tymcen Maruma, Craig Ervine, Andy Blignaut, Chamunorwa Chibhabha, Tendai Chatara*
