ZIM Marketing and Membership Manager, Viola Musariri, said her organisation was inviting submissions for the accolade at the moment. “We are advising the nation that we are looking for people that we feel are suitable to be manager of the year. If you know somebody that excelled in a management position in 2009, then hand in their name and contact details,” she said.
“The manager of the year will be judged on profitability of their organisation, growth of the organisation, and human resources development of the organization. There are about 10 areas that are considered. We will be looking for quality in terms of good social responsibility, economic development, personal development of the nominated individual,” she said. The manager of the year award is the most prestigious award of the ZIM.
“The first award was made in 1978 and since then several well known management leaders in Zimbabwe have been recipients,” she said. The categories available are private sector manager of the year sponsored by Zimnat Lion and Zimnat Life, public service manager of the year sponsored by Econet Wireless Zimbabwe Limited and the SME manager of the year sponsored by Kingdom Bank.
The other awards are young manager of the year sponsored by Star Africa Corporation, customer service excellence award sponsored by Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe and the national contribution award sponsored by Kurt Kuhn and the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority. ZIM was established in 1957 as an independent, non-profit making, membership organization whose vision is to be the nation’s leading voice in management and a centre of reference in management consultancy. The awards will be held on June 4, 2010.
