Maguwu’s Life in Danger as Medication is Tampered With

farai_maguwuThe life of Farai Maguwu, (Pictured) the incarcerated director of the Center for Research and Development (CRD) is in danger after police officers who abducted him from remand prison tampered with his medication.


Maguwus lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa on Wednesday 16 June 2010 told High Court Judge Justice Chinembiri Bhunu that some unidentified people, who hosted him after he was booked out of remand prison on Friday 11 June 2010 until his return on Tuesday 15 June 2010 had altered the medication which he was taking to cure a sore throat, chest infections and fever. Mtetwa said the unidentified people substituted Farais medication with medicine of unknown origins.

In response to Mtetwas concerns and complains Justice Bhunu, who presided over the bail hearing lodged by Maguwus lawyers ordered the human rights defender to be examined forthrightly by a medical doctor of his own choice.

Meanwhile, Justice Bhunu postponed Maguwus bail hearing to Thursday 17 June 2010 at 14:30 hours.
