During a recent Zanu (PF) meeting held at Zhombeni business centre in Chimanimani, a furious Gaba launched an attack on The Zimbabwean and promised to “deal” with one of the newspaper’s reporters whom she said was responsible for writing bad things against her.
“During the meeting a list of people either suspected to be writing or supplying The Zimbabwean with information in the area was drawn up. Some of the people on the list include local teachers and MDC supporters. Gaba told Zanu (PF) youths at the meeting to monitor the suspects and put them under surveillance,” said a source who attended the meeting.
The Zimbabwean is reliably informed that two of the suspected local high school teachers have already asked for transfers next term fearing that they might be attacked at by Zanu (PF) green bombers.
“The problem is that Zanu (PF) has for years been taking advantage of the remoteness of the area by intimidating and harassing opposition supporters thinking that these issues cannot be exposed. Now with the good coverage in this area from The Zimbabwean, they are exposed,” said an MDC district official who refused to be named.
Over the past few months The Zimbabwean has been carrying stories on how Gaba and Zanu (PF) youths have been perpetrating violence in the area against MDC supporters. During the June 27 run off, Gaba and a Major Muresherwa were in charge of a torture base at the disused Manicaland Development Association offices (MDA), where a lot of MDC supporters were assaulted.
