Addressing a rally at Stanley Square in Bulawayo on Sunday, Tsvangirais party controls more than 27 urban and rural councils and has a firm policy of zero tolerance to corruption among the councillors.
We control about 27 local authorities country wide and we have to make sure that there is zero tolerance to corruption in these local authorities. We will continue firing corrupt councillors because, if we dont do that there will be no difference between us and Zanu (PF),said Tsvangirai.
Tsvangirai said those councillors who defy the partys position to step down after they are found guilty of corruption are no longer MDC members.
Those who refuse to step down are longer MDC members. We believe it is better to lose one corrupt councillor and save the party, Tsvangirai told about 1000 MDC supporters.
He said people in Matebeleland should make sure they included devolution of power in the new constitution so that they wont continue being marginalized.
Constitutional Parliamentary Committee (COPAC) will be in Bulawayo very soon to consult, tell them to include the issue of devolution of power so that you can also benefit from the national cake, he said.
The Makokoba rally was also attended by deputy Prime Minister and MDC vice president Thokozani Khupe, Information and Technology Minister and MDC spokesperson Nelson Chamisa, State Enterprises and Parastatals Minister Gordon Moyo, deputy information Minister Murisi Zvizwai, MDC National Organizing Secretary, Elias Mudzuri and party Treasurer Roy Bennett.
