Hammer shot dead in arms of a woman

JOHANNESBURG - Lindisiwe Mkhize, a Zimbabwean national wanted for allegedly terrorizing and robbing South African Casinos and banks, was shot dead while in a compromising situation with a woman at his rented home in Durban Deep, outside Roodepoort this month.

Mkhize, prominently known as hammer because of his continued use of sledge hammer to smash his way into the casinos and banks, has been on a police wanted list for a long time. One of his close associates, Velo Zondi, was also shot dead in Joburg a day before Mkhizes death. In a similar incident last month, cops arrested six men for the Sibaya casino robbery in Durban. Five of them are said to be Zimbabweans and are set to appear in court on November 25.

The gang is linked to the Wildmill casino heist in Bloemfontein as well as the attempted robbery of Black Rock casino in Newcastle in September. Despite continuous loss of life of criminals through the bullet, Police National Commissioner Bheki Cele has vowed that his men will not let any criminal roam the streets, especially during this festive season as they endeavour to wipe out all criminal related issues throughout the country.
