Play revisits June 27 to promote healing

BULAWAYO - A local playwright, Raisedon Baya, is working on a play that focuses on perpetrators and victims of political violence, reflecting on the June 27, 2008 run-off elections scenario, where hundreds of civilians lost their lives.

Entitled Offenders and Victims, the play is one of many artistic works being used to promote national healing among people from different racial, ethnic and political backgrounds after the horrific June 27 run-off elections.

The play narrates the tale of a notorious former militia member, who abused his position to terrorize his community but later faces resentment after he came back announcing that he was planning to wed. He faces a torrid time to convince his community that he quit his profession and regretted his past.

The play is meant to promote national healing. It reflects on the past events experienced by victims of political violence, said Baya adding that it will be distributed for free in visual and audio format at nationally.

The project is funded by Radio Dialogue, a community radio station.
