South Africa: Many concerns raised in submissions to Parliament on proposed Bill

The Immigration Amendment Bill 32-2010 has alarmed many human rights organisations. Among them are the Uct Law Clinic, CORMSA, the South African Law Society, Lawyers for Human Rights and PASSOP who have all made written submissions and are due to make verbal submissions to the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Home Affairs.

PASSOP is extremely concerned by many parts of the bill. The final outcome of parliament’s deliberations will affect thousands of immigrants, refugees and most likely have a profound effect on the human rights image of South Africa.

PASSOP’s submission has been endorsed by Scalabrini Centre, Black Sash and Solidarity Peace Trust- can be viewed here.

Today (Tuesday the 25th of January) at 11:30am, PASSOP will be making it’s oral submission in Room V454, Fourth Floor, Old Assembly Building – Parliament Cape Town at 11:30am.
