Corpses of murdered Gweru gold dealers found in bush

REDCLIFF - Two corpses identified as being of elderly white men have been found here in a bush. Investigations have indicated that they are the result of a murder case.

The corpses were found at Cactus farm, Redcliff. The incident comes barely a week after a woman in Gweru was accused of axing her husband to death, while last month two prophets were arrested for killing a church member and extracting his brains for ritual purposes.

Police confirmed that the two white men, Povey Geoffrey and Michael Sutherland, were murdered by Gweru men, one of whom has been arrested and appeared before Gweru magistrate Florence Nago.

According to court papers seen by The Zimbabwean, on March 27 this year, the first suspect, Farai Lawrence Ndlovu of Mkoba 13, and his partner in the crime Wellington Gadzira, who is still at large met the deceased in Gweru.

Both suspects had told the deceased the previous day that they had 190g of gold to sell and that there was a gold rush near Kwekwe River. They agreed to go there. When they got into the deceased’s vehicle, the two suspects had poison in a plastic bottle.

On the way, one of the suspects poured the poison into the drinking water which was in a cooler box. Upon arrival at their intended destination they gave it to the unsuspecting men who drank and became weak.

At that point the two suspects struck the deceased with picks on their heads resulting in their death, and they hid them in the bush. The suspects then stole the motor vehicle of the dead men, a Nissan Patrol, Registration Number ABK 0999 and other valuables and sped off.

Their luck ran out at Sango Boarder post where thy intended to flee to Mozambique. At that point Ndlovu was arrested while Gadzira fled. The two have been denied bail and will appear again in court on April 26 for trial.
