Spanish Ambassador to Zimbabwe dies in car crash

THE Spanish Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Pilar Fuertes Ferragut, was killed in a car crash yesterday. It is not known known where or at what time. Zimbabwean roads are in a terrible state because of a lack of maintenance. There also many drivers on the roads who paid for their licences without taking the test of proficiency.

The Spanish Embassy in Zimbabwe confirmed the death. "The Embassy of Spain wishes to inform you of the tragic passing away of Her Excellency Pilar Fuertes Ferragut, the Ambassador of Spain to Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi in a car accident yesterday afternoon," the Embassy said in a short statement.

"A Book of Condolences is open from today till Thursday this week and Tuesday April 10 from 8am to 4pm at the Embassy at Number 16, Phillips Avenue in Belgravia, Harare,>"

She had played a pivotal role in Zimbabwe and helped build a strong relationship especially for the arts and culture between the two countries. She had also hosted several functions for local journalists where she briefed them about issues in her country.

Ferragut was also instrumental in arranging cultural events at the annual Harare International Festival of the Arts (HIFA) and Harare Agricultural Show (HAS)
