Presenting the 2018 National Budget on Thursday Finance minister, Patrick Chinamasa said to reduce government expenditure, government was going to abolish 3 479 youths officers posts.
In August this year, former President Robert Mugabe ordered the reinstatement of over 2 000 youths who had been retrenched from Government.
Mugabe claimed that they had been retrenched without Cabinet approval.
Youth officers were used by the former President Mugabe’s regime to terrorize opposition party supporters during election campaign periods.

This is not a big surprise given that of the two Zanu PF faction G40 and Lacoste, it was the former that had relied on the Zanu PF Youth League members, the youths officers, for it political muscle. Lacoste relied on the war veterans and there is no doubt in terms of political influence the war veterans will be Zanu PF’s storm troopers in the future.
Whatever the nation will save from the removal of these party youths from the public pay roll will be paying war veterans and other party activists or be it surreptitiously. The days of the public bankrolling Zanu PF vote rigging activities are not over; this is a revolving door!
