The project to create the first electric buses in London has been led by a Zimbabwean, it has emerged.
Irvine Nyamapfene has won praises in the UK for this groundbreaking work.
Nyamapfene has won an award presented by the multi billion pound London company, UK Power Networks.
This is the second project after another by the CrossRail company where he won the project manager of the year award.
“Congrats Engineer Irvine Nyamapfene
Regional award for project manager of the year for work on electric buses infrastructure in London (Could not hide such big news at a time when Zimbabwe is struggling with energy and transport. I hope this project is replicated back home),” wrote Girl Child Network Founder Betty Makoni.
The development comes as his home country, Zimbabwe risks being plunged into total darkness.
Energy minister Fortune Chasi confirmed that the state owned power utility ZESA is struggling to pay a debt of more than US$40million – over R580m to Eskom.
ZESA also owes millions to Mozambique for electricity borrowed in the past few years.

Cheap, shallow and baseless journalism skills (if any) from the so called staff reporter, i mean even for your superior to okay such a shallow envy coated story leaves a lot to he desired about y’all inspirational spines.
We all know that if Mr Irvine was to come to Zim in the name of nation building, he would be murdered as early as before the rooster crows 2 times
What a badly written article…so what is he supposed to do in his own home country exactly?? You do understand that being “Project Manager” means he is overseeing a development with Investors/ Sponsors behind it, right?? Is a person supposed to stop living their dream because their home country, with it’s bad governance, fails to capitalise on such similar projects where people can showcase their capabilities?
You are one joke of a journalist…how about you try changing the face of journalism in your home country and see ho far you can go!!!
What a lot of rubbish!!! What could this gentleman do singlehandedly in zimbabwe right now. Poor journalism at its best. You should be showcasing his talent and congratulating him.
Mr Nyamapfene we are proud of you👏🏽👏🏽. We hope one day in not so far future you will be able to impart your knowledge and skills to our folk back home in the hope to rebuild our country
I met Irvine 20 years ago through his wife Betty Makoni! I was an A Level Sciences student then. He was a Zesa Engineer. He inspired me to become an engineer as well hahaha. Well done Bro. What a cool dude.
Sure the oerspeftuve if tbe article is very malicious. Way should his success in Britain be pitied agaunst tbe faulures of his government. I mean he ran away from there for this life. That action alone is eniugh severance from that government.
He doesn’t owe Zimbabwe anything! Why are you making it sound like he does? What a dumb article
The article, although brief, nontheless highlights the existing talent in Zimbabwe that can be unleashed if the right conditions and opportunities are available and seized. The fact that Mr Nyamapfene is the project manager of such a huge and innovatory structure speaks volumes for his practical knowledge demonstrated in in all the dimensions of project management.
I am a Zimbabwean citizen and a retired university lecturer and help several people in Kariba to untap their resourses and create business platforms for the benfit of the country and themselves.
ZIMBABWE WHIPS ITS MOST VALUABLE RESOURCE – IT’S PEOPLE, AND THEN BUY THE PRODUCTS MADE BY THOSE PEOPLE AT INFLATED PRICES, WHEN THEY WORK FOR FOREIGN COUNTRIES. IS IT NOT ZIMBABWE THAT HAD THE SAITH TECHNOLOGY GUY IGNORED, UNTIL SILICON VALLEY SNAPPED HIM UP? POVERTY IS A MINDSET, NOT WHAT’S IN YOUR POCKET. THE POCKET CONTENT IS A MANIFESTATION OF A SHALLOW BRAIN. TRUMP SAID IT BEST – “WHAT SORT OF PEOPLE ARE THESE THAT STARVE WHILE SITTING ON TOP OF A MOUNTAIN OF GOLD?”
This is just bad journalism, just horrible.
In my own opinion, I will say this man is so selfish, he was supposed to focus in his country to develop electricity, he is developing another person’s country. We will always remain “black” I will call this man a Fool, give me that type of opportunity I will electrified my whole village.
Tell Elon Musk he’s selfish living and working in Europe when South Africans are struggling in the slums. Anyone is free to free themselves Ann’s their families from poverty. They don’t need world approval! That’s why there’s covid19 mandates because of such wicked reasoning from people who think they are better than others
Malicious article, linking one man to failures of Zesa.
Why can’t you leave this man alone let him fulfill his dreams all those problems from his country won’t stop him from pushing forward well done Mr nyamapfene
My kid can write a better story, why not just give the Engineer praises, its not his responsibility to light up Zimbabwe.
