The incident happened on Monday at about 7pm while the 50-year-old female complainant was at home with her family.
Bulawayo Deputy Police Spokesperson Assistant Inspector Thandekile Ndlovu said the suspects were wearing navy-blue work suits and were armed with a pistol, small axes and Colombian knives.
“The accused persons assaulted the complainant at the back using an axe handle whilst demanding cash. They ransacked the house and took US$1,700 which was in the purse on the bed, three cellphones and car keys,” she said.
The suspects allegedly took the complainant’s silver Toyota Hiace, registration number AFA 0634, which was parked inside the yard, and used it as their getaway vehicle.
“A police report was made,” Ndlovu said.
She urged members of the public to avoid keeping large amounts of cash at home and instead use banks or other reliable financial institutions.
“We urge members of the public to avoid keeping large sums of money at home but rather to bank or use any other reliable financial institutions, also to install tracking devices in their vehicles for easy location,” she said.
Ndlovu also appealed to anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects or recovery of the stolen vehicle to report to their nearest police station.
“Anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the accused persons and recovery of the motor vehicle [should] report at any nearest police station,” she said.
