Womens empowerment in print

womenHARARE - Womens Monitor Magazine, a gender based publication that seeks to empower women, is set to be released this month, to be distributed nationally.

The chairperson of the gender-based publication, Marah Hativagone, told The Zimbabwean in an interview that the release of her magazine was timely. “The Magazine is a concert of the living mix of voices against patriarchal dominance. There will be editorial contributions by civil society, women in leadership, grassroots women and youths, making this a powerful permanent mass media vehicle for information and social discourse. The publication is coming out at the right time, despite the economic challenges that exist,” she said.

Hativagone said that while many women had good ideas, there was no platform for the transition of those ideas into action. “There is need for a national association and full participation of able organisations,” she said. “It would be wonderful one day to see packed products delivered from Mutoko by the women farmers from that side.

She urged women to work towards the eradication of poverty and to equip themselves with the tools of information.
