Thousands of MDC supporters today gathered at Chaparara Village in Mberengwa to bid farewell to the former MDC Midlands South chairperson, Mr Sicino Dube who died on Thursday after a long illness.

He was 63.

Mr Dube joined the MDC in 2000 and rose through the ranks to become the party’s provincial chairperson in 2006.

Speaker after speaker praised the late leader as a man of peace who worked hard to bring development in Mberengwa district. Even those from the opposition (Zanu PF) showered praises on Mr Dube saying he was a uniting figure whose leadership skills will be missed by all.

He is survived by his wife Reverend Marble Dube and six children.

Meanwhile, Diamond Karanda, a founding member of the MDC has died. Karanda died on Sunday at Chitungwiza General Hospital after a short illness.

Two weeks ago, at the MDC 12th Anniversary Celebrations at Gwanzura Stadium in Highfield, Karanda was presented with an award for his continued and unwavering support of the MDC.

He was 37.

Karanda is survived by wife, Precious and four children. Mourners are gathered at 7770 Budiriro 4, Harare. Burial arrangements will be announced in due course.

In Rusape, two MDC members from Gwangwadza Village in Makoni South were last week convicted at the Rusape Magistrate’s Courts on false public violence charges.

Alfred and Leonard Machemedze were last Friday kidnapped at their home by a group Zanu PF thugs led by Mandi Chimene a central committee member. The Machemedze brothers were taken to Nyazura Police Station and were later hauled before a magistrate at the Rusape Magistrate’s Courts the same day.

The magistrate only identified as Manuwere convicted the two of public violence and remanded them in custody to today.

However, the magistrate failed to pass sentence as the state failed to bring in medical reports of the Zanu PF members who claim to have been assaulted by the Machemedze brothers.

Makoni South MP, Hon. Pishai Muchauraya said the conviction of Alfred and Leonard was politically motivated.
