Zimbabwean gunmen on the road

At least five Zimbabwean strikers are still jobless and searching in South Africa. Former Warriors captain, Benjani Mwaruwari, former PSL top scorer, Ralph Matema and his former Bosso teammates - Thabani Moyo and Nqobile Mpala, are still out in the cold.

They are joined by the duo of Alois Ngwerume and Shadreck Mweda in the search for new clubs in the South African PSL. Although Matema is still playing for Mpumalanga-based National First Division side, Witbank Spurs, he told The Zimbabwean he was doing it without a contract and highlighted his desire to return to the PSL, three seasons after leaving Orlando Pirates. “Injuries hampered my progress since arrival here, but I know that belong in the PSL, so I am hoping for a break soon. There have been no clear promises so far, but I remain hopeful of making that ultimate return,” said “Banolila”.

“I am ready even to play in the Vodacom league. My life revolves around football and in the last four years I have been training by myself without a coach. I am desperate to return to football.”

Moyo, who last kicked the ball for Alkanorus club in the Cypriot league, is also pinning his hopes on landing a club here. “I am back in Africa and searching for a team in the ABSA Premiership because I want to continue playing,” he said.

Ngwerume, who spent last season in the books of Jomo Cosmos, chose not go to down when “Ezenkosi” were relegated and is currently training on his own, hoping for a PSL club to come knocking for his services.

Mwaruwari has since last week been trying to get a contract at former ABSA Premiership champions, Supersport United, after his move to former club, Jomo Cosmos, fell through for unexplained reasons. The former Warriors skipper is one of the stars offloaded by relegated former English Premiership club Portsmouth last season.
