PSL Round-up

Tripple B have been huffing and puffing since their debut PSL season began, but their new coach, Peter Manoti had belief this week that the side’s weekend victory over army side, Buffaloes would give them the zeal to fight for survival.

Coming from a 3-2 victory over Dynamos in midweek games, Buffaloes were shot down 4-2 on Saturday in Dulibadzimu Stadium. Manoti has brought in a new sense of urgency in the club, with a hundred per cent record since he took over from the fired Friday Phiri.

“The win has brought confidence in the boys’ minds and I can safely say the relegation fears that had gripped both the club and our fans across the country have been allayed,” said Manoti.

“I believe this is the beginning of a long survival battle that will see us pick up more and more points. Our target now is to collect maximum points from at least our next three games and that will be the beginning of even better things to come.”

Tripple B came from the two week-break of PSL action anchoring the log, but have since moved two steps up the ladder, as their quest for survival continues. The development has seemingly brought in a spirit of hope to their multitude of fans especially in the border town and the rest of Matabeleland South Province, who had to wait for decades before they could have a PSL club.

Meanwhile, Highlanders coach, Kelvin Kaindu said this week that his side had put behind them all the depression they went through after Bosso lost their last two games to Chicken Inn and Caps United.

Although they remain on the summit on goal difference, Kaindu’s charges are no longer as safe as they were before the midweek games and now have to pick themselves up and fight again.

“We are focusing on the BancABC Cup this weekend, but that does not mean we have forgotten about the league when action resumes again next week,” said Kaindu. “We have talked to the boys and they have refocused. We will meet Caps United again, this time at home, in our next league fixture and that will be a different ballgame altogether because we will be in another side of the season.”
