which he built a massive mansion, have already been forcibly evicted by war veterans and state security agents and the white owner has also been told to pack and go. The families have been condemned to homelessness and suffering and join hundreds of thousands victims of a clean up operation carried out by the Mugabe regime in 2005.
It was difficult to establish whether war veterans, members of the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO), army and police who have been subdividing the farm actually have offer letters from the ministry of Land Reform.
However, a visit to the farm this week revealed that the remaining families were stranded because they don’t have anywhere to go. The majority have already left after verbal notice of their eviction, reportedly coming from the president’s office, was served three months ago.
A number of new settlers, said to be security agents and war veterans, were seen setting up their own structures having allocated themselves subdivided plots.
The owner of the farm was said to be away this week but a manager who spoke to this paper said: “We have been ordered to vacate the farm because of security reasons and the farmer is trying to contest the matter but the majority of families have already left whilst the remaining ones are also leaving.”
Many of the families evicted from the farm have since relocated to the squatter camp at Hatcliffe Extension.
Lands minister, Didymus Mutasa, who is also in charge of state security declined to comment.
Mugabe’s lavish mansion, built with material from the Far East, boasts a man-made lake. Several property owners in the area were evicted before construction began. A guarded driveway stretching for about 5 kilometres is reserved for the aged leader.
Mugabe is reported to have recently fortified security at his mansion as he grows more concerned for his safety in the wake of confusing reports about coup attempts, either real or stage-managed.
