Gwala, who was billed to perform in Bulawayo, Gwanda, Beitbridge and Victoria Falls in May, but did not turn up for the shows, claims his life has been threatened.
He accused Bulawayo businessman and promoter, Omega Sibanda, of baying for his blood after he signed a contract with Chitoro.
He is expected to come to Zimbabwe for a show promoted by Sibanda later this year.
Controversy surrounding the shows began on 22 May when a fraudster pretending to be Freddy Gwala called The Chronicle, a state-owned Bulawayo newspaper, and declared that he would not be coming to Zimbabwe as advertised.
He urged the paper to contact Sibanda, who he said was his manager. Investigations revealed that the caller was an imposter and when contacted for comment Gwala declared that he would be coming to do the shows, but never turned up.
