SA refuses to scrap visas

South Africa has thrown out requests by the Zimbabwean government to scrap visa requirements, despite previous indications that it was about to implement SADC Protocols on regulation of travel.

It is understood that certain concessions will be made, including reduction of the fee from R2000 to R500.

Other issues to be reviewed include the letter of invitation, visa fees, police affidavit stating the residence were one will stay once in SA and security deposit fees.

Zimbabweans have been flocking to Mozambique, Botswana and Zambia to buy basic requirements as those countries no longer require visas.
