At St Mary’s Hall in Chitungwiza last Saturday, hundreds of youths turned up in droves for the “Rock Da Vote” campaign – held under the aegis of the Alternative Civic And Voter Education Campaign – where entertainment was provided by dance group IYASA, raunchy dancer Sandra Ndebele; rappers Sniper, Stunner, Extra Large as well as singing sensation Patience Musa.
Organisers said the campaign was building on previous voter registration efforts that took place in Harare, Bulawayo and Mutoko over the past three weeks.
“The musical campaign is targeted at the youth to take an initiative to participate in the electoral and political process through voting,” said a spokesperson for Crisis Coalition.
He said the campaign was hinged on the fever and enthusiasm of an old-time civil rights revival coupled with the energy and mass appeal of urban grooves. – Chief reporter
