Joburg made some noise on Saturday 8th December as revolutionary artists and hungry crowds descended onto the Bassline, the city's premier live music venue. MAKE SOME NOISE!, a travelling concert that aims to raise awareness about the crisis in Zimbabwe, saw performances by some of Zimbabwe and South Africa's most cutting edge artists.

The appreciative crowd of two hundred saw a powerful opening by Zimbawe’s Outspoken after whom there was South Africa’s Hip Hop whiz kid, Blindfold, whose hit song has topped the charts on YFM for three weeks in a row. He was followed by the emerging Reggae Rock sensation, SteadyRock, an enjoyable live band. Flo, the MC for the night, would then come up on stage and encourage South Africans to make some noise for Zimbabwe and for them to put pressure on their own government to be a positive force for change. There was then an unforgettable performance by popular rap poet, Lesego Rampolokeng aka ‘Rap Master Supreme’. The night came to a climax with the rip-roaring toyi toyi music of Comrade Fatso and Chabvondoka which had the crowd screaming and toyi toying. To round up the power-filled evening was Chiwoniso followed by DJ Kenzhero, one of Jo’burg’s finest DJs, who moved the crowd with his solid shots of Funk, Soul and Hip Hop.

MAKE SOME NOISE! received huge media coverage, featuring in dozens of mainstream South African and Zimbabwean radio, newspaper and TV reports. The organisers, MAGAMBA!, a Zimbabwean network of spoken word activists and creative rebels, said that now the concert will travel further around the region, from Cape Town to Gaberone. The Concert aims to galvanise Southern Africans into action on the Zimbabwe crisis especially in light of the current SADC ‘talks’ and the looming Zimbabwe elections. So SADC get ready to make some noise!
